Valerie Letourneau vs Poliana Botelho added to UFC 206 Toronto
Valerie Letourneau will face off against Poliana Botelho at UFC 206 Toronto on December 10th of this year.
UFC 206 looks like another home run card for the UFC with the likes of Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson facing off in Toronto and with still no main event announce it can only get better.
Valerie Letourneau who is fighting in her home country of Canada holds a professional of 8-5 with her last fight ending in defeat by knockout at the hands of Joanne Calderwood. Letourneau who is currently ranked as the #6 strawweight in the UFC will be looking to bounce back from that defeat with a much needed win.
Valerie is no stranger to fighting in her home country with 11 of her 13 fights taking place in Canada. Experience is an invaluable asset for a fighter so fighting for the 12th time in Canada will be hugely beneficial for her.
Poliana Botelho who will be making her UFC debut in December is no slouch; she holds a professional MMA record of 5-1 with all of her wins coming by way of knockout. Botelho is the younger of the two fighters at the age of 27 with half as many fights as Letourneau. The Brazilian is on a 3 fight win streak and was the XFC international flyweight champion in her previous promotion before she signed with the UFC earlier this year.
Poliana has trained with some of the best in the world with Miesha Tate flying her out to help her prepare for her title fight against Holly Holm and Claudia Gadelha doing the same to help her prepare for her title fight with strawweight champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
This fight could have major implications in the straw weight division with current champion Joanna Jerdzejcsyk defending her belt a month previous in November against Karolina Kowalkiewicz at the hugely anticipated UFC 205. Joanna has defeated everyone the UFC has thrown at her including Valerie Letourneau who she defeated in a gruelling 5 round battle at UFC 193 on November the 14th 2015.
Toronto is a huge fight city full of passionate UFC fans and the love and support they show for their fighters is second to none. Although this bout is only on the prelims don’t overlook it because these two women need to impress, Letourneau needs to win to keep her UFC career alive and Botelho needs to win if she wants to ever challenge for that belt so stakes are high for both.
With the electric atmosphere a Toronto crowd provides it can either fuel a fighter or overwhelm them and Letourneau who is the more experienced and has more at stake will be fuelled by the crowd. If these two girls bring their A game it will be one hell of a fight.
