Nordic Fight Night’s Hidden Gem: Dina Thorslund Versus Oksana Romanova
On October 15, Nordic Fight Night will hold a pivotal event headlined by Dennis Ceylan and Ryan Walsh, for the European Featherweight Belt. In the co-main event, one of the fastest-rising female boxers around, Dina Thorslund, will face the biggest test of her career.
Nordic Fight Night is Scandinavia’s premier boxing promotion, and because of high-quality events like their upcoming October 15 show, the fast-rising fight company is gaining worldwide acclaim and attention.
The appeal of this main event isn’t hard to grasp. Dennis Ceylan is undefeated as a professional, with half of his wins coming by way of knockout. At just twenty-nine years of age, he’s already advanced his professional career to noteworthy levels while boasting a trip to the 2012 summer Olympics, where he competed in the sweet science as a bantamweight.
Ryan Walsh is the reigning British featherweight world champion, and across twenty-three fights against skilled opposition, he’s been bested just once. Now riding a five-fight winning streak, the champion will look to add another finish to his highlight reel, and in the process, claim the European featherweight championship.
This headliner is phenomenal, but in getting excited for it, many are overlooking the absolutely terrific co-main event between Dina Thorslund and Oksana Romanova, which may very well steal the show.
Simply put, Dina Thorslund is one of the most promising up-and-coming female boxers in the sport. She’s amassed an undefeated record of 6-0 thus far, with the majority of these triumphs coming by way of KO. What’s more is that Thorslund is surprisingly unprotected, in terms of her record. Boxing promoters and managers alike have been padding their fighters’ records by booking them against low-level opposition for ages, but Dina has consistently faced high-level opponents.
Oksana Romanova is her toughest test to date.
The well-traveled Ukrainian has fought undefeated opponents in nearly half of her fights, and against such elite opposition, she has been finished via strikes just once. Moreover, Romanova made her professional debut in 2001, when her upcoming opponent was just seven years old! What’s more is that the momentum is on Oksana’s side, as she spoiled Plamena Dimova’s perfect record this May, in her last outing.
Especially on such a massive platform, and with so many intriguing bouts accompanying it, this game-changing co-main event between Dina Thorslund and Oksana Romanova cannot be missed by boxing fans. The event airs live on Scandinavian television and will be available for viewing online when it goes down this Saturday, October 15.
A win here for Thorslund may mark the turning point of a world-class career, but the problem is, she’s facing a woman who has made her living upsetting contenders for the past decade and a half in Romanova.
