Ha Na Jang earns third victory of season
The LPGA headed to Taiwan this week for the Fubon LPGA Taiwan Championship. The tournament turned into a two-person race between Ha Na Jang and Shanshan Feng. While Feng had the round of the day with a six-under par 66, it was not enough to overtake Jang, who shot a one-under par 71 to hold on for a one-shot victory. For Jang it was her third win of the season, to go along with wins at the Coates Golf Championship and HSBC Women’s Champions.
Ha Na Jang was three-under par for the day through the first six hole before bogeys and seven and nine. She was steady the rest of the way with nine straight pars. Feng recorded seven birdies, including one on the par-5 18th, to go along with a single bogey.
Hyo Joo Kim was steady the entire four rounds and finished tied for third with Canada’s Brooke Henderson, at ten-under par. Another shot back at nine-under par was the group of Candie Kung, Lee-Anne Pace and Hee Young Park. At eight under par was Carlota Ciganda and Jodi Ewatt Shadoff.
The top finishing american in the field was Cristie Kerr, who battled back after an opening round of 74 to finish tied for 10th at seven-under par. Other notables finishing back in the pack include Anna Nordqvist at four-under par and Lydia Ko at three-under. Ariya Jutanguarn, five time winner this season, was not in the field
Ha Na Jang, the 24 year old from Korea, has 11 professional wins, eight of them on the LPGA of Korea Tour. Jang, whose rookie season was in 2015, is 12th in the Rolex rankings and quickly becoming one of the top players in the world.
The LPGA heads to South Korea for the LPGA Keb Hana Bank Championship next week. Lexi Thompson, who last played at the Evian Championship nearly a month ago, is the defending champion.
