National Women’s Soccer League: Carli Lloyd Injured

Orland, Florida. – U.S. women’s national team star and the reigning FIFA World Player of the Year, Carli Lloyd injured her knee in the fourth minute of the Houston Dash’s match against the Orland Pride. It was a non-contact injury, as Lloyd appeared to stumble on the artificial turf. Lloyd is scheduled for an MRI on Sunday.

Saturday’s match was a home opener for the National Women’s Soccer League’s Orlando Pride and drew an NWSL-record 23,403 fans. The Olympics start this August and any major knee injury would make Lloyd questionable for the games. See game highlights below.

Carli Lloyd and four of her fellow teammates are in a wage dispute with US Soccer and had hinted at the possibility of an Olympic boycott. Read about Lloyd’s New York Times Op-ed here.
