It was the first known legal summons issued by Congress to a member of the president's family to force testimony in the ongoing investigation, and comes after Special Counsel Robert Mueller declined to accuse Trump's 2016 campaign of criminal conspiracy to collude with the Russians.

John Cornyn, a member of Senate Intelligence Committee who is up for re-election next year, just told CNN's Manu Raju he understands Trump Jr.'s frustration with the panel and says the committee probe is "wearing kind of thin".

It remains to be seen if Trump Jr challenges the reported subpoena, since, unlike the ones that have targeted the Trump Organization or officials in the past, this one is coming from the supposedly friendly GOP camp.

The Senate intelligence committee has been investigating Russian election interference and Trump's ties to Russia for the last two years. Reports surfaced on May 8 that the Senate Intelligence Committee issued a subpoena to the younger Trump.

Two separate investigations, one by the House Intelligence Committee and another by the House oversight and judiciary committees, also concluded there is no evidence of collusion. Trump Jr. and his brother Eric are overseeing the president's Trump Organization business empire while Trump is in office. Rick Gates, Manafort's former deputy who was charged and pleaded guilty in the special counsel's investigation, told Mueller's team about the discussion.

Burr told The Post this week that he was not inclined to pursue Trump Jr. for perjury over any potential lies, as Mueller did not charge him.

"Cohen also recalled briefing Donald Trump the spring - a conversation that Cohen said was not "idle chit chat" because Trump Tower Moscow was potentially a $1 billion deal", the report says.
