Samsung Galaxy Fold delayed after folding feature breaks screens

Samsung Galaxy Fold launch events postponed in China, Hong Kong: Reports

Samsung postpones Galaxy Fold events in China to review screen problem

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said his Galaxy Fold started operating abnormally after he removed the film and eventually became unusable.

While Samsung's device was not the first folding handset, the smartphone giant was expected to help spark demand and potentially revive a sector that has been struggling for new innovations. Samsung plans to announce a new release date in the "coming weeks", which suggests that the rumored no-earlier-than-May time frame was accurate, if not optimistic.

It's not going well for the Samsung Galaxy Fold.

Samsung Gear and Galaxy Watch owners have both complained about this issue on Twitter and Reddit in addition to Samsung's official forums.

Samsung's reasoning of the event location being an issue is false since the company has also canceled two other local Galaxy Fold activities in China.

"The media events for China will be rescheduled after reviewing the screen problem occurred in some samples in the United States last week", a Samsung official based in Seoul said.

Samsung has reportedly postponed the launch events for its $2,000 Galaxy Fold smartphone in Hong Kong and Shanghai, according to reports by SamMobile and Engadget.

As Samsung continues to look into why their flexible displays have been prematurely dying or having issues, potential buyers are likely to become even more skeptical of the almost $2,000 price point.

One particular point of emphasis is on the device's built-in screen protector that is not created to be removed, but which several early reviewers attempted to pull off anyway. We will follow this story to see if more Galaxy Fold delays are announced. The obvious reason would seem to be investigating the screen issues, but it's also possible that Samsung is using this time to more clearly label the display warning.

Following on from the sudden delay of the Chinese launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold, a report claims that the company has now delayed the launch worldwide.
