Luke Walton is out as coach of the Los Angeles Lakers after three losing seasons.

The whirlwind week of change continued for the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday as the organization parted ways with head coach Luke Walton.

The former Lakers forward went 98-148 after getting his first permanent head coaching job with the 16-time National Basketball Association champions.

In announcing the end of his tenure, the Lakers said severing ties was a mutual decision between the franchise and Walton. "We wish Luke and his family the best of luck moving forward".

"I want to thank Jeanie Buss and the Buss family for giving me the opportunity to coach the Lakers", said Walton. "Everything has to be in good order, because if it's not, as we have witnessed with the Lakers, then there's going to be casualties and usually the coach is the first one".

Don't forget, Lue spent his first three seasons as a player with the Lakers winning a couple of rings in the process in 2000 and 2001.

"I'm disappointed for Luke", Kerr said via Anthony Slater. Lue was the Cleveland Cavaliers coach who led the Cavs to three-straight NBA Finals - and one title - with James leading the way.

Leaving the Lakers this summer could be great for Walton, who was basically in a no-win situation in LA.

On Thursday, as reported by ESPN's Adrain Wojnarowski, Divac fired head coach Dave Joerger, as well as assistant general manager Brandon Williams and Chris Clark, their director of media relations.

He was hired by Sixers coach Brett Brown before this season.

Through it all, the Lakers were 20-14 after beating the Warriors in Oakland on Christmas Day, the game in which James was initially injured. He believed too much that who he was, Magic Johnson, was more than enough.
