Chelsea battle past Fulham in West London derby

Sarri was reportedly on the brink of being sacked

Maurizio Sarri has revealed that the situation with goalkeeper Kepa is "closed" after the Chelsea No.1 returned to the starting line-up for their 2-1 win over Fulham on Sunday.

The win was enough to take Manchester United back to the top four places on the Premier League table at the expense of the Gunners.

Arrizabalaga stunned the world when he flatly refused to come off at Wembley, instantly undermining furious Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri.

"I think that he can do better".

In an incident-packed first half, the much-maligned Jorginho restored Chelsea's lead with his first goal since the opening weekend of the season.

Chelsea FC - who lost the League Cup final last month to Manchester City on penalties - are looking to break back into the top four this season as they aim to secure Champions League qualification. Fabinho was also guilty of wasting a big opportunity 21 minutes from time as Lucas Digne cleared when the Brazilian took an age to control Virgil van Dijk's knockdown. Kepa paid for his mistake with the club and the team. Willy Caballero didn't put a foot wrong against Spurs but Sarri has confirmed Kepa will be recalled to start one of the next two games.

Sarri's decision to restore Kepa to the team was a gamble that could have backfired as Chelsea made a nervous start. "But Kepa is a man and understood and reacted very well today".

'I remained calm because I know what fans are like... they have the right to complain. I spoke with him during this week and he understood.

"In seven days, we played 120 minutes in a very hard match against City and 90 minutes - very expensive (in terms of energy) - against Tottenham and today we had to play a very important derby". But, with another man, yes of course. His behaviour during the week was really very good. "With him, I know him very well and know very well it wasn't the right solution". "His reaction was really very good", he concluded.

However, the Blues were ahead three minutes later as Higuain netted his third goal in England, turning home a cross from Cesar Azpilicueta.

Chelsea are now occupying sixth position on the Premier League standings with 53 points after 27 games played this term.

We focus on our next game, everyone wants to be top of the league and we can not change the situation at the moment. Everton boss Marco Silva was pleased with the way his side restricted Liverpool to so few chances.
