Fire at government-run airshow in India destroys hundreds of cars

Hundreds of cars gutted in blaze at India air show

No injuries were reported.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, taking note of the incident, said he has instructed police and fire officials to take action.

The parking spot is a few kilometres away from the venue of the air show. Fuel tanks of various cars exploded during the fire. Hundreds of vehicles, including two-wheelers and cars, were seen parked in files in the open ground, surrounded by fire. According to a policeman present at the venue, one auto suddenly caught fire, which spread uncontrollably and took around 80-100 cars in its blaze, resulting in a huge tower of smoke.

The Indian companies are outshining foreign vendors at Aero India with a slew of announcements and large display areas. Fire fully extinguished now. Likely cause: "dry grass fire aided by heavy winds". However, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Eyewitnesses said they heard repeated blasts as the fire spread.
