Brenda Toineeta Pipestem, a former NIWRC board member and now a tribal Supreme Court justice said it is "important" the native community show their support for Warren, calling her an ally.

That tweet, as many on Twitter noted, included what was apparently a rude reference to a dark time in American history, the Trail of Tears. The Washington Post also recently revealed that Warren listed her race as "American Indian" when she filled out a form for the Texas state bar in 1986. The DNA test enraged several Cherokee tribes, to whom Warren had to apologize.

Warren told reporters her comments were a reference to the multiple investigations that have shadowed Trump's presidency.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), announces her official bid for President on February 9, 2019 in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Trump has dubbed Warren "Pocahontas" over her claims of Native American ancestry. She also gave a speech a year ago discussing her reasons for why she called herself a Native American, but she didn't apologize.

The Democrat Senator said her nation was in a "dangerous situation".

A Warren aide also provided Haaland's introduction, in which the freshman congresswoman touted Warren's work focused legislative work on issues affecting Native communities, including a bill aimed at the opioid crisis that contained, she said, "strong tribal provisions that respect tribal sovereignty". "I will never give up on you", she said.

Warren officially launched her presidential campaign on Saturday in her home state of MA at a mill site where largely immigrant and female factory workers went on strike in 1912 to call attention to the wealthy power brokers who "have been waging a class warfare against hardworking people for decades", Warren said in her speech.

First, Warren said she would take on "corruption" in Washington, citing an ethics bill to ban lobbying by former lawmakers, presidents and top appointees, with additional provisions that propose a requirement that presidents make their tax returns public and sell off companies to avoid conflicts of interest, NBC News reported. Warren's campaign wouldn't say what the senator believes Trump was referencing. Cory Booker of New Jersey, in his first trip to Iowa as a presidential candidate, suggested in passing Saturday that if he won the Democratic nomination, he was not certain he would face Trump in the general election.

Despite their similarities, Warren and Sanders have taken somewhat divergent paths in recent months as they prepare for the primary. "But we need to win".
