Failed attempts to patch the relationship together led to Irving being traded to the Boston Celtics.

"There have been reports to the contrary - that he is strongly weighing his options and perhaps even leaning toward the door - but one source very close to the situation laughed and suggested that sowing doubt regarding Irving is in the best interest of others who are, of course, free to pursue their agendas", Bulpett reported. If Boston wants Davis, they would have to move Irving, and apparently the Lakers would be on his list.

On Tuesday, Rich Bucher of Bleacher Report suggested that Kyrie Irving was "genuinely interested" in joining forces with LeBron James again, just over two years after he demanded to be traded to Boston to step out of his the four-time MVP's shadow.

While the latest report indicates that the Celtics aren't anxious at all about Irving leaving town, there are plenty of other reports that indicate otherwise.

Davis' camp has let it be known he doesn't consider the Celtics a long-term home because he doesn't believe Irving plans to re-sign with the Celtics next season, sources said. Danny Ainge doesn't sound too concerned about the issue.

The Fernando Alonso retirement tour got off to a rousing start as he charged to the lead of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. The others on that most illustrious short list: 1964 Rolex 24 champion Phil Hill and 1972 champion Mario Andretti.

A three-way trade between the Knicks, Celtics and Pelicans makes a ton of sense for all three parties with NY landing Irving, Boston landing Davis and the Pelicans landing a boatload of young assets and picks. The trade netted the team their current superstar in Kyrie Irving, while Thomas would proceed to bomb with the Cavaliers before ending up with the Lakers.

It remains the Celtics' preference to trade for Davis in June, around the draft, and then re-sign Irving in July, locking both in as their cornerstones for the future.

This is what the elder Davis had to say regarding the idea of his son possibly playing for the Celtics, via ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Talk of adding Irving to the mix is where this all gets tangled.

Irving has excelled for the Celtics during his 18-month stint with the team, and so far this season, the 26-year-old is averaging 23.7 points, 6.9 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game.
