No team can complain when they chase 323 with almost eight overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.

The hosts, who swept the two-match Test series, handed batsman Rishabh Pant his 50-over debut after a strong performance in the five-day games.

"Feels pretty good. A convincing win". Windies put up a really good total. It was a challenging total, and they even got rid of Shikhar Dhawan early in the chase, but then Kohli walked out and the entire colour of the match changed. 320 targets are very tricky, but we knew we could do it with a big partnership. And life isn't hard when Rohit is at the other end.

5- The number of double-century partnerships between Kohli and Rohit, and this is already a record.

Facing a tricky target of 323 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, India produced an imperious run chase to get over the line with almost eight overs remaining and draw first blood in the five-match series, condemning West Indies to an 11th defeat in their last 13 ODIs.

The skipper built on his quickfire fifty to get his 36th ODI ton in just 88 deliveries, hitting Kemar Roach for a boundary to make the three-figure mark amid loud cheers from a packed home crowd. "They're two quality players, world-class players".

Rohit Sharma made a superb 152 off 117 balls and remained not out. Shimron Hetmyer scored a fine 106 off 78 balls.

Hetmyer eventually fell in the 39th over, caught on the ropes at long on off left-arm spinner Ravi Jadeja but India - after snaring three wickets for 30 runs - were frustrated by tail-enders Roach (26 not out) and Devendra Bishoo (22 not out) who put on 44 in an unbroken ninth wicket stand at the end.

Hetmyer, who registered his third ODI century in just his 13th game, built crucial partnerships including a 60-run sixth wicket stand with skipper Jason Holder, who made 38.

"Pleased with the guys for the batting effort".

"I won't mind batting first on this pitch", said captain Jason Holder. And the only way to stop them from scoring is by getting them out.

The next ODI will be played at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
