The latest state police news release from Sunday indicated that at approximately 1:55 p.m. Saturday, state police and the Schoharie County Sheriff's Department responded to a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Routes 30 and 30A in the town of Schoharie.
There, it struck a parked SUV and at least two pedestrians, before becoming lodged in a ditch at the side of the road, police said.
He said authorities were able to figure out the direction the limo was traveling and what occurred, based on evidence found at the scene.
Because autopsies were still being conducted, officials declined to confirm the names of the crash victims on Monday, but family members of some victims confirmed their identities.
The manager of the upstate NY store where a limousine crash killed 20 people says the site is a risky intersection that's been plagued by accidents. He said the limo was carrying out-of-towners during a busy tourist weekend, Stone Fort Days.
'I heard a loud bang, I came out my front door to see what was going on, ' she told WTEN. The person says that the other two victims were bystanders.
"Regardless of what we were talking about, whichever silly way I had them pose, they were constantly smiling and laughing", Torres says.
In total, 20 victims were killed, all adults, and 18 of the victims were in the limousine, including the driver, and the two pedestrians. The couple married in June and were among a tight circle made up mostly of old high school and neighborhood friends from Amsterdam, New York. Abeling said in an interview from upstate NY where her family was gathered. "Our lives have been changed forever".
The gathering was to celebrate Amy King-Steenburg's 30th birthday. Three of her sisters were also passengers in the limo.
Patrick Cushing, who worked for the New York State Senate, and his girlfriend, Amanda Halse, also died in the crash.
Calls to the families of the other victims were not returned, and The Washington Post is withholding their names until they can be confirmed by relatives. Abeling said her own daughter had been invited along but couldn't go.

On Sunday, Cuomo released a statement saying, "My heart breaks for the 20 people who lost their lives in this horrific accident on Saturday in Schoharie".
Amanda Rivenburg spent her days helping those in need as the associate director of day community opportunities program at Living Resources, an organization that services people with disabilities, according to the Times-Union.
But officials already saw some red flags, Cuomo said: The driver didn't have the necessary commercial license, and the vehicle failed a state inspection that examined such things as the chassis, suspension and brakes.
Months later, the NTSB committed to investigating crashes involving stretch limos on a "case-by-case" basis.
