Devin McCourty happy Eric Reid has signed, hopes Colin Kaepernick is next

Free agent safety Eric Reid has officially signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, a move that had seemed unlikely given his and Colin Kaepernick's ongoing collusion lawsuit against the NFL. "He's played at a very high level the last few years".

Reid has been on Packer fans' radars for some time, especially in the wake of the poor (or, at best, inconsistent) play at the safety position out of Kentrell Brice and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to start the 2018 season. In May, Reid filed a collusion grievance against the NFL alleging he has been kept out of the league due to his political stance.

Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said he wasn't concerned about Reid's past protests, telling The Associated Press it was a "football decision" - and one that was approved by new owner David Tepper. The team just placed safety Da'Norris Searcy on injured reserve last week after he suffered multiple concussions in a short time, so Reid will likely start immediately. "He's a hell of a safety, a really good player". Other than the Cincinnati Bengals, whom Reid visited in April, other teams did not show interest in him despite his solid performance with San Francisco, which included a Pro Bowl selection after his rookie season.

Texans rookie safety Justin Reid said he's thrilled his older brother Eric Reid is back in the National Football League and is "immensely proud" of what he stands for "in trying to have a voice for the voiceless".

Kavanaugh, Accuser Face Scrutiny at Senate Hearing
Swetnick, the people said. "It was hard for me to breathe and I thought that Brett was accidentally going to kill me". Kavanaugh will deny all of the allegations but will tell the committee that he was "not perfect" in high school.

"I'm on the West Coast visiting schools all week", Hurney said during a phone interview from the University of Southern California, "so I actually haven't talked to Eric". "But I don't know". I think he's a good player. So to say that [they aren't patriotic] makes me so aggravated and angry.

What made the Panthers sign him?

Reid became part of the firestorm surrounding player demonstrations during the national anthem. But both Trotter and Branch have reported the team offered Reid a one-year contract.

The Panthers are entering their bye week so Reid will not take the field until October 7 at Bank of America Stadium to host the New York Giants.
