Several people, including three infants, were stabbed in a Queens day care early Friday, police said.
A sixth person was found in the basement of the day care centre in the Flushing neighbourhood.
The suspect was taken into custody and then taken to New York-Presbyterian/Queens hospital with self-inflicted wounds. Two other people, a man and a woman, were also stabbed just before 4 a.m. Friday.
The ages of the infants, two girls and a boy, were not clear, but one of the girls is in serious condition, according to police.
Her identity has not been released.

Investigators said they believed the home served as an informal neighborhood daycare center. It is not clear whether his child was among those stabbed.
Four other children were removed from the daycare uninjured and are under observation.
The suspect, a 52-year-old woman employed at the in-home center, was taken to a hospital after cutting her wrist, police said.
Police have not yet determined a motive.
