Google’s Chrome Turns 10 and Gets a Fresh Look, New Tricks and an Easter Egg

If you are now running an older version of Google Chrome, it's incredibly easy to update to Chrome 69. The updated Material theme has gone through various iterations, and the Android app redesign has been in the works for well over a year.

So you'll be able to get lavish results on celebrities, cultural events, weather info and more straight from the Omnibox.

The Omnibox will now show you answers directly in the address bar without having to open a new tab. For example, if you're a person who loves to have lots of tabs open, you can still do that, but the icons for websites are more clearly visible when you have an vast amount of tabs open. The Omnibox can now also search across all the open tabs so if you search for a website that's already open, the Omnibox will show a "Switch to tab" option.

How do you get the latest update?

For iOS, it moved the toolbar to the bottom of the screen to make it easier to reach. The search giant said that now Chrome has more rounded shapes, new icons and a new light colour palette. If you're lazy or open a bunch of tabs, this feature will save you a bit of time so you won't have to find the answer on Wikipedia or WolframAlpha. Unlike most of the Chrome upgrades we see roughly every six weeks, this update is packed to the brim with new features.

Needless to say, this is a massive update. The smarter address bar suggestions, the cleaner design, the smarter password manager, and the better user-experience add up to what seems like the best Chrome update in a long time. Previously, the tiles on the new tab page were automatically generated based on the sites you commonly visit. You can play this game when you try to access Google Chrome while offline.

Chrome has improved its password handler so that when you sign up for new sites it will recommend a strong and hard to brute force password.

This is a great addition as it will remove the requirement of installing an extension to perform this behavior, which many simply track your searchers or perform other unwanted behavior.

"Today, in honor of Chrome's 10th birthday, we're launching several new features", Rahul Roy-Chowdhury, VP of Product Management at Google, stated in an announcement.

If you're already using a password generator, this feature won't feel like anything new, but it's convenient to have this service integrated into the browser, at least. Autofill is more accurate, and you can use the new tab page to both create new site shortcuts and customize the background for those just-opened tabs.
