Cohen yesterday pleaded guilty to campaign finance violations, alleging the President himself had directed him to pay hush money to two women with whom he'd had affairs.
Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen faced his own charges on Tuesday, pleading guilty in federal court to five counts of tax evasion, one count of false statement to a financial institution, one count of unlawful corporate contribution and one count of an excessive campaign contribution.
Cohen did not specify the women's names, but the sums correspond to a payment known to have been made to adult film star Stormy Daniels just before the election to silence her claims of a one-night stand with Trump - and another destined for former Playboy model Karen McDougal.
Davis said that Cohen's knowledge reached beyond "the obvious possibility of a conspiracy to collude" and included also the question of Trump's participation in a "criminal conspiracy" to hack into the emails of Democratic officials during the 2016 election.
Lanny Davis, Mr. Cohen's attorney, said on Twitter: "Today he stood up and testified under oath that Donald Trump directed him to commit a crime by making payments to two women for the principal goal of influencing an election".
Manafort was found guilty of eight our of 18 charges of tax and bank fraud, the first conviction for special counsel Robert Mueller.
The first case is potentially more serious for the president.
Sooners No. 7 in preseason AP poll, Cowboys unranked
Past year the Crimson Tide became the first AP preseason No. 1 to win a national championship since Southern California in 2004. Winners of five national championships under head coach Nick Saban since 2009, Alabama received 42 out of 61 first-place votes.
Will Cohen cooperate? Notably, Cohen's plea agreement does not include cooperation.
At a campaign rally in Charleston, West Virginia, Tuesday evening, Trump called the Manafort decision "a very sad thing".
"It's a witch hunt and it's a disgrace", Trump said Tuesday of the Manafort verdict.
The plea for donations comes after Cohen pled guilty to eight felony charges, including campaign finance violations.
What does this mean for the Mueller investigation?
"That's why he's no good - that is Michael Cohen against Donald Trump", Levin said.
In the president's view, Manafort is "brave", and Cohen is a bad lawyer who, Trump incorrectly asserted, pleaded guilty to "violations" that "are not a crime". "It is clear that, as the prosecutor noted, Mr. Cohen's actions reflect a pattern of lies and dishonesty over a significant period of time".
Sitting Presidents are not indicted, but Mr. Trump could be charged once he leaves office, according to several legal scholars. It is impossible, after Tuesday, to imagine that a responsible congressional investigation wouldn't thoroughly examine every deal with which Cohen was involved and wouldn't even more aggressively seek to understand Manafort's links to Russian figures.
The president has repeatedly voiced frustration that Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been unwilling to intervene into investigations into Trump and his allies, including the ongoing special counsel probe into possible collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation.
