The Mendocino Complex fire has surpassed the size of the Thomas fire to become the largest fire in Californian history.

The Nevada County Strike Team, composed of engines from Ophir Hill Fire, Peardale Chicago Park Fire, Higgins Fire, Nevada County Consolidated Fire and Nevada City Fire is still assigned to the Ranch Fire on the Mendocino Complex.

The wildfires have burned through 283,800 acres (114,850 hectares) - an area almost the size of the sprawling city of Los Angeles.

Evacuation orders were issued across Mendocino, Lake and nearby Colusa counties, though some people were allowed to return home on Monday afternoon, Cal Fire said - more than 20,000 people have been evacuated.
