Chelsea part ways with Conte

The 59-year-old replaces fellow Italian Antonio Conte, who was sacked on Friday after two years at Stamford Bridge.

He will be tasked with returning Chelsea to Europe's top club competition after they finished fifth in the Premier League - outside the Champions League qualification places for the second time in three seasons.

After his appointment in the summer of 2016, the Italian enjoyed a hugely successful first season in England, instilling belief in a damaged Chelsea side and leading them to the Premier League title.

Chelsea FC managed to end the season with silverware after the Blues eased to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley back in May.

Sarri has never won a major trophy in his 13-year professional coaching career, but Napoli mounted a historic Serie A title challenge against Juventus last season while earning praise for their thrilling style of play. Negotiations for the highly-rated manager's payoff have accelerated over the last 48 hours and are nearly completed.

Maurizio Sarri says he wants to bring "entertaining football" to Chelsea after becoming their manager on a three-year deal.

Maurizio Sarri has reportedly agreed a deal to become the new head coach of Chelsea and will be joined at Stamford Bridge by Gianfranco Zola.

The Blues are now expected to appoint Sarri, who recently left Napoli, which led to a contract wrangle with the Italian club, although the saga is nearing a conclusion.

While no official announcement has been made from either Chelsea or Napoli, Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas took to Twitter yesterday afternoon to pay his respects toward Conte.
