Cristiano Ronaldo made a remarkable move from Real Madrid to Juventus for about £93 million last night. "I feel that way and I ask everyone, and especially our followers, to please understand", Ronaldo said in an open letter yesterday.

Ronaldo, whose World Cup campaign with Portugal was ended in the last 16 by Uruguay just under two weeks ago, hinted after May's Champions League final victory over Liverpool that he was considering leaving the Santiago Bernabeu. He also won the Ballon d'Or trophy on five occasions.

Reports in the Spanish media suggested that Liverpool FC could spend a club transfer record fee on the Real Madrid playmaker to fill Philippe Coutinho's void at the Anfield outfit.

The Portugal worldwide scored two goals against Juventus in Real's 4-1 win in the 2017 Champions League final and earlier this season struck a jaw-dropping bicycle kick against the Italians in a 3-0 win in a quarter-final first-leg game in Turin which prompted Juve supporters to give him a standing ovation.

Modern great Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid to join Italian champions Juventus.

Whether a mooted move in the region of £88m happens remains to be seen, but either way with Ronaldo now 33-years-old, Madrid have to plan for the future.

However, as the Spanish giants prepare for life under new head coach Julen Lopetegui, Ronaldo felt the time was right to move on.

Journalist Guillem Balague tells Sky Sports that the four-year deal could end up costing Juventus €400m (£354m) but notes that in the two days leading up to the deal the club's stock market value rise by 20%.

And it is that kind of ambition that will keep the Belgian in London, who wants to win the Champions League.

But one particular message might stand out from all the others after Brazilian great - and fellow contender for the tag of the greatest of all time - Pele, tweeted the Portuguese superstar to congratulate him on this next step. "My respect and gratitude goes out to them all".

Madrid have tended to get their way in the transfer window in recent years, as they have the financial muscle and pulling power to get the players they want.

And Del Piero believes the arrival of Ronaldo can massively improve Juventus' chance of dominating in Europe.
