Jared Leto’s Joker Is Getting His Own Movie (EXCLUSIVE)

Jared Leto’s Joker Set for Standalone Movie at Warner Bros.

One of the - many - overwhelming criticisms of the movie was Leto's lacklustre Joker, which, though little more than a glorified cameo, didn't quite measure up to the freakish tales from the movie's set.

The Clown Prince of Crime looks set to receive his own spinoff film.

Warner Bros. is giving Jared Leto's Joker his own movie, but the studio is still developing another cinematic solo outing for the iconic DC Comics character that's expected to explore his origin story.

In news that only Jared Leto wants, Jared Leto is set to reprise his role as The Joker in a new Suicide Squad spin-off.

Joaquin Phoenix is already set to play the Joker (reportedly) in that above-mentioned 1980's set origin film, but as it will be under what Variety is terming an "origins" banner, it will be firmly set outside of the continuity of the mainline DCU on film.

It's unknown at this time where in Warner Bros. and DC's film release timeline any of these movies will take place, let alone the DCEU's canonical timeline. And given how not everyone was able to stomach the little that they did see of Leto's Joker makes it even more confusing. For now, the movie is still in the early stages and is searching for a writer. Many of these performances, like those by Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger, are the stuff of acting legend, but then you get Jared Leto's unusual take on the character which can perhaps only be described as divisive. Plot details are under wraps, but the studio is looking to expand on the world created in Suicide Squad with new films tied into future installments of the property. You can read the original report over at Variety.
