The president tweeted that Disney CEO Bob Iger should apologize to Trump for past comments about him made on ABC because Iger had apologized to Valerie Jarrett, the subject of Roseanne Barr's racist tweet.
Iger called Jarrett ahead of ABC's announcement to let her know.
"First of all, I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment", she said.
Barr's tweet (which attacked Jarrett, alleging connections to the Muslim Brotherhood and mentioning Planet of the Apes) set off a firestorm that resulted in ABC pulling the plug on Barr's extremely popular rebooted sitcom, Roseanne.
"I did something unforgiveable so do not defend me", Barr wrote.
"I am sorry for making a thoughtless joke that does not reflect my values - I love all people and am very sorry".

The Warriors dispatched the Rockets on Monday (Tuesday morning, Manila time) with a fine second half display in Game 7 to advance. And, it's not like the Cleveland Cavaliers played an wonderful Game 7 , this was a very, very winnable game.
When one fan tweeted that Fox should pick up Roseanne, Barr spoke out. But her show drew praise from President Donald Trump, who attributed its popularity in part to his supporters. The return was large enough to prompt ABC to quickly order another season.
"Oh man this is just the best, @therealroseanne is now defending her tweets by saying Ambien made her racist?"
She even offered an explanation as to what caused her to tweet.
Please don't start all of that boycott abc stuff-I'm not a censor and they have the right to do what they wish. Clinton responded to Barr, saying she is in no way related to the Soros family (she is married to Marc Mezvinsky), but when Barr apologized for the mistake she called Soros "a nazi".
- Is there any possibility of a "Roseanne" sitcom without Barr?
She also said she believed Jarrett was Saudi or Jewish or Persian, rather than black. "It's all ok", she wrote.
Ms Jarrett, 61, was a top aide for Mr Obama and also served as assistant to the president for public engagement and chair of the White House council on women and girls, as well as leading his transition team when he moved into the White House.
